Glam and dramatic makeup for formals, galas and parties

Whether it is a school formal, a gala, a birthday, or any occasion where you want to walk in and feel the room - this is the look for that moment. If you want the opposite of this, something quiet that still looks finished, that is the natural and soft glam page.

I work with your features and the mood of the event to create something bold but balanced - dramatic without being overdone. Every element is intentional.

Stage and performance makeup in Melbourne

The same bold work goes on stage, not only out to dinner. As a performance makeup artist I do stage makeup in Melbourne for dancers, calisthenics, dancesport and theatre, where the face has to read from the back of a hall and hold through a night of costume changes rather than sit still at a table. For children and teenagers, dance and stage work has its own page.

At the darker end of the same work sits Halloween: a black eye, a deep lip and skin left flawless, or a face built from scratch. That is set out on the Halloween page.

The same bold work goes to the track. For Derby Day, Melbourne Cup and the rest of the carnival there is a spring racing page, where the look is built for a long day outdoors instead of an evening indoors.

If you are looking specifically for makeup on Asian features, there is a separate page with that work.

Group or multiple bookings

Need the same service for more than one person, or booking for a group? For the same service, each guest needs their own complete booking, start to finish - or simply message me with the details and I'll take care of the bookings for you. For larger groups, I work with assistants and can often take on more people than my calendar alone shows.

Good to know

Not at all, and a daytime event is one of the most common reasons to book it. A race day, an afternoon wedding, a christening, a birthday lunch: these are occasions where a polished, defined look belongs. Glam is also not one fixed setting. It runs from softly polished through to a full evening look, and where yours sits on that scale is something we choose together, by what the occasion is and by how much you want to see on your own face. Strong in the afternoon is a perfectly normal choice, and so is the same look built lighter.

That is your call. I like working with lashes and I think they finish a glam look properly, so they are usually part of how I build one. If they are something you are unsure about, say so and we talk about it, because I ask rather than assume. It is also a decision you can leave until later in the appointment: by the time the makeup is nearly finished you can see the look on your own face and decide whether you want it taken further or left as it is.

Yes. Long wear is the part of my work I am known for, and I work in a way that keeps shadow where it was put: it does not gather in the crease, it does not slide and it does not fade out halfway through the evening. Your eye will still be there at the end of the night, and you will not spend it checking your reflection. If this has happened to you every single time, tell me before we start rather than after, and I will build it with that in mind.

Long wear lip products hold well, and a lip built with them lasts through an evening of talking and drinks. What no lipstick survives is a plate of oily food, so eating with a little care makes the difference between touching it up once and touching it up three times. For a long night it is worth carrying something in a similar shade so you can refresh it yourself, and if you have nothing with you, I can usually send you off with a little of the colour I used.

It will, and the reason is that boldness lives in placement rather than in quantity. A strong look on skin that is no longer twenty is put together with lifting technique, light textures chosen for how they behave through a long evening, and colour that refreshes the face instead of weighing on it, so the definition you wanted for the evening is there without the makeup arriving before you do. Age is not a reason to be handed the beige version of what you asked for. The reasoning behind how it is put together sits on the mature skin page.

Come with a clean face and moisturised lips, and skip a heavy facial, strong exfoliation or anything new on your skin in the few days before, because irritated skin shows through everything. Bring the outfit in a photo or at least its colour, and any looks you have saved. If you wear contact lenses, bring them in rather than putting them in afterwards, and if you are having hair done as well, we do makeup and hair in the same appointment, see the hair styling page.
